Building Brainpower: Turning Grey Matter into Gold – Book Review

December 29 0 Comments Category: Miscellaneous

I have read quite a few brain powering and knowledge-gaining-tips books in the past, but most of them were a kind of inspirational speech types, where you see how well ones brain can perceive things, can understand and revert back to each thing, but in the end, you can’t practically work on it and it isn’t always easy to sharpen self’s brain by reading a couple books. The “Building Brainpower” book by Dilip Mukherjea is something different, not the best in the field but still a pretty good one.

Dilip Mukherjea tries to explain how one can adjust their levels of understanding, and build the brain power by one of the tricks named Mindmapping. Mindmapping is one of the ways using which one can sharpen their brains and do something that the book title says. Dilip did an excellent job in explaining how the human brain functions, and how it is characterized into various parts and what functions does each part hold. The mind mapping thing works with a concept of focusing the brain and how well you can remember things for a shorter and longer period of time, and the number of objects you see with the eyes and the brain can have at once.

One would take the book as a real serious one, and would be wondering if its that necessary to go through everything, as it might be hard to do that. But the fact is that Dilip Mukherjea has tried to keep things simple and easy to understand, where the readers won’t see any hard parts that might make people think twice before reading ahead. Many concepts of reading have been explained pretty well in the book, and the author has focused on the conversion of symbols and words into phrases and ideas. The brainmapping tutorials and techniques could be a great topic for people to work on, and explain others about it. There is even a lot of focus on the way people explain things to others, through pictures, doodles, jokes etc. which make the understanding a lot easier, and the memory levels increase due to such stuff.

The book doesn’t target any specific age group, because the way memory lessons and concepts are explained, they could come to the best understand for a teen to an adult, and it has everything to do with the human nature and brain, but not with the age and maturity. No part of the book shows that you lack talent of easy understanding, and it is just made to teach things better. Overall, the book although might seem to be priced a little high for such level of education provided in it, but still has some of the best insights from the author on how the human brain, nervous system, mindmapping, language skills work. This is not something like a first release by the author, so you would see things well spread and an experienced feel while you flip through the pages reading the content.
