Experience at Social Media Day Meet – Hyderabad

The Social Media Day Meet, organized by a few people for Mashable, at a very sweet place named Sweet Nirvana, was a good experience and yeah, was quite bigger than the tweetups that keep happening in Hyderabad.

Mashable aptly named the day as the World Social Media Day and introduced the concept of social meets all around the world. The Agenda for the meet was well planned, with some fun in the quiz round. Not much happy with the Interactive session where the Introduction of everyone was being done, as I was included in the FourSquare group. Damn! I’ve never used it. What I know about Foursquare is the Cigarette company!! Nothing else, am socially limited to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Orkut (yeah, my sick college friends make me still keep my account alive there).

The good thing in the event, was the tweetup within the meetup.. where I met a few new people, and few whom I already met in previous tweetups. Prem Piyush, Praveen, Vemana, Shashank, Ananth Narayan, Reetesh were those who I know and have met already, but was again a good time talking to them.

Was happier to meet Nandita, Nidarshana, Nimit Jain, Deepti Rupani, Mamatha (she’s one of the reasons why this meet was a good success), Aditya (one of the organizers, well done job), Armin (the funny quizzer), Ramakrishna Varma, Chennapa Naidu, Pavan Atukuri, Aditya Nishtala, Teja and many others.

It started out with the Introduction and Agenda, then continued by the Group discussion and Introduction, a #fail if you ask me. At least the grouping was! I fell into a group of entrepreneurs, dropouts and CEO’s of companies, and above all FOURSQUARE?. Still, as the grouping was randomly done, so can’t complain.

Later on, the quiz section was uber-cool. Not the questions, but the options. Kudos to who wrote those funny options. There were a few goodies and coupons, given by a beautiful lady from BeautifulPeople. The dinner and networking session was the best, added up by the Acoustic Guitar/Vocals by Kris and the Percussionist Dev. They were rocking!
And the food, Mamatha gets a big appreciation for that. It was a delicacy.

Overall, it was a good experience with the highest number I have seen in Hyderabad i.e. 65. Tweetups usually see no more than 15-20 people. Hope to catch up with everyone soon.

  1. For me it was a nice event. Though Networking part was missing but still I liked it. And the fact that finally I got to meet few people whom I wanted to meet for a long time was the high point!
