Veer hindi movie review
I remember the name Anil Sharma, for his “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” and “The Hero: Love Story of a Spy” and the action parts of the movies, the same was to be portrayed here, in Veer but its not the same as it was promoted. Its a love story added up with the influence of the same love and sacrifice in the fight against the British empire.
Movies starts on a high note, the fights and betrayal by Raja (Jackie Shroff) of Madhavgarh where Prithvi Singh (Mithun Chakravarthy) and thousands of other Pindharis lived and expected land from the Raja. He joined hands with Britishers and the villagers were left helpless. That’s where Veer (Salman Khan) was born and brought up to become a fierce warrior (who was brought to that world only to fight??) who was sent to London with brother Punya (Sohail Khan) to learn how the Britishers think, and how they live.. so that the same can be used to fight them on the war field. Similar to every typical epic story, love at first sight with the opposite lead.. Princess Yashodhara (Zarine Khan) who is Raja’s daughter! It goes on till the end which is inspired by Dharam Veer in the past where a fight decides who is going to hold Yashodhara’s hand for life. In the end, it has to be Veer.. or how would the movie end?
Anil Sharma was probably out of Ideas on how to end the movie with a perfect note.. and disappointed the viewers there. Veer laid his life, but his son’s entry again as Veer (Salman again) was unnecessarily shown (only to copy english movie 300′s idea that Veer’s death brought many more Veers in the Pindari’s community). We can call it a typical bollywood-sentimental end which was not to be seen in a period movie like this one.
Zarine Khan is a cute copy of Katrina Kaif but lets not compare them here.. Zarine at least knows how to talk Hindi in an Indian accent. Not to forget, you can’t expect more than what she acted in the film, being a debutant. Lisa Lazarus also being a new entry, is totally wasted.. just a couple scenes that didn’t suit her.
Would it be someone else than Mithun Chakravarthy, Neena Gupta (Salman’s mom) and Sohail Khan, i wouldn’t have liked it. Jackie Shroff too played his part of a cunning king pretty well.
Sajid Wajid‘s musical touch in the entire movie was pleasant and although there was no much chemistry on the scene between Salman and Zarine, the music kept us on ease. Tinu Verma‘s action setting was perfect, not displaying very adulterated scenes, putting it mostly simple.
After reading most of the reviews before watching the movie, I still wanted to watch it out of curiosity, and can say that its not always reviews we should rely on.. its worth watching once and appreciating Salman’s action. He did it perfectly, the body, the looks, except the dress he wore when he was a warrior, all was amazing!
Rating: 2.5/5
