3 Idiots movie review
Rajkumar Hirani, a very occasionally working director, who did Munna Bhai in 2003, its Lage Raho sequel in 2006 and now after the same time interval, its 3 Idiots at the end of the year. But I bet its the best movie of the year and one of the best of the decade. And guys, who said its based on the story of Chetan Bhagat’s Five Points Someone?? It was inspired by the concept of engg. students but nothing else. Its mostly a different line of story, and a MUST WATCH.
Movie starts with Farhan (Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi), searching for Ranchoddas Shaymaldas Chajaad (Aamir Khan) who had left the college after passing out the engineering suddenly, in the Imperial college of Engineering. Narration is by Farhan and is so well narrated(which reminds me the way Chetan Bhagat narrates in his stories) and he explains the whole story.. the flashback.
Rancho (Ranchoddas’ nickname) is a guy who thinking differently than others around. He joined the college, not to pass out and earn a degree, but to learn something. He can do anything, for anyone. He passes out some gyaan to his friends about their life and how it should go.. and his nature, attitude and everything was disliked by the dean of the college Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani) aka Virus(as the students call him) who never likes to see anyone going ahead of him, or disobeying him. A typical character and role that was needed here, was played pretty well by Boman Irani. More interestingly, Rancho falls in love with Pia (Kareena Kapoor) who’s Dean’s daughter..
Rest is how Rancho and his friends pass, and then he disappears from their world. And how they search for him, added up with complete entertaining scenes of use of physics and engineering brains to get many things done! From the entry to the end of the movie, Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman were awesome, though didn’t look like the engg. students, but acted so much as them! Kareena (whom i usually dislike for being very skinny) was surprisingly looking different, younger and charming! There should have been more of her role too.. which was limited to only when her need as a doctor comes in the movie.
The songs were excellent, well timed with some emotional flicks that can touch you, bring down tears.. not uncommon when you see any sentimental from Aamir or Shahrukh starred movies. The name Idiots is for their madness, its because they are in their own world, all influenced by Rancho’s gyaan to Farhan and Raju. There are many more scenes am not mentioning about, so that you go watch it.
Hirani, as he did the “Jaadu ki Jhappi” trend back in 2003, popped out the idea of “All Izz Well” which Aamir keeps telling to himself tapping his heart whenever he is tensed.
Most entertaining – The speech given by Umi, a guy who was poor in Hindi and delivered the speech in Hindi which was modified by Rancho.. Chamatkar was changed to Balatkar, Dhan changed to Stan.. ROFLed all the way till the end of the speech..
Unnecessary drag – The only part where you feel an emotional drag has the delivery part near the end of the movie. Here’s again where Rancho’s engineering skills and love for machines was portrayed, but atypical.
It showed how people usually lead a life in an engineering college, but Farhan (who always wanted to become a wildlife photographer) did choose his path away from engineering when Rancho motivated him to do.. oh and am I talking every part of the story in bits?
Final words -
One of the best movies ever seen. One was “Rang De Basanti”, and now its “3 Idiots” that would easily come into the list of the best movies of anyone, except a few who don’t like either comedy movies, or have a grudge on Aamir Khan.. no one else would feel its not a good movie.

Hey excellent review there, and i can just say this is the best movie i have seen in this year. Recommended to every one who wants to have a 2 hours continuous laugh session.
Briliant direction by Hirani….and awsome acting by 4 Idiots and By umi.
