Wake Up Sid hindi movie review

October 02 14 Comments Category: Movies

When my friend Roshni told me its the debut of Ayan Mukerji with this movie Wake Up Sid, I had kept my expectations limited. As no one knows how the entry would be! But yes he proved he is going to have a great time ahead in the Bolly world. And starting off the career with 2 such people who I never expected to see together in a movie, was nothing easy! Ranbir being a very cool and bindaas kinda guy and Konkona always into serious Page 3 roles. But the match in this movie was perfectly selected, keeping the roles and story in mind.

Wake Up Sid is a portrait of life story of a boy who is always lazy and thinks about today, never cares about what is going to happen tomorrow! His life goes on until he realizes that something needs to be changed. Many things included and influencing him in life, all together it had some good meaningful messages within the simple story! Talking good about the movie in this review doesn’t mean you need to go with some good expectations.

Story

Movie started with the title song broken into parts explaining in short, the lazy Sidharth Mehra(Ranbir Kapoor) who lives his life too loose with no worries about the future because he has what all he wants due to his rich businessman Dad. He meets Aisha(Konkona Sen Sharma) who just came to Mumbai from Kolkata to set her career and search of something that builds an identity for her, and helps her lead an independent life. Their thoughts are completely opposite, but still in some time they become the best friends.

Lots of things happen in Sidharth’s life when he sees himself failed in the exams! Leaves home after being upset and with some argument with his Dad when asked to apologize to his mom, whom he insulted for being illiterate! He begins staying with Aisha as a roommate and she always looks him as a kid, though from her inner side, she had some different feeling for him, and it was her who made changes in Sid’s life.. and rest of it…. go watch the movie!!!

Continuing the review

Not just the lead pair but Shikha Talsania and Namit Das, playing the roles of Swetha and Rishi, did their part pretty well. Liked the cuteness of Shikha, the chubby friend of Sid, very well deserved the part in the movie. Anupam Kher and Supriya Pathak did the good parents role too.
It wasn’t a rocking movie anywhere, it was slow going and smooth but that was what needed to explain the life of Sid and Aisha together. The songs though gave some pace and emotions in between the serious life story of Sid.

Some scenes were touchy and emotional, and which one won’t forget after you leave the movie hall too.. like the birthday cake(which was the bread and jam) which Sid prepared for Aisha’s birthday! And the way Mumbai was well promoted :P (not promoted actually, but displayed beautifully) and there are a few scenes where you feel watered-eyes due to the emotions like Sid going back to meet his Dad, and the mother-son relationship etc.
Some parts gave me the feel of Lakshya movie where Hrithik was the same in the 1st half, but still this story is different.

Overall

Well laid-out but stretched movie, good songs and story. Well directed with nice punches in middle. For the director, its a good debut. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy music rocks as always, some beats bringing Dil Chahta Hai into my mind.

Rating

3/5 mainly contributed by the songs, direction and action!

  6. Aditi,
Heh yep.. arre I don’t know what others might feel about my blog, but for me its crap. Just something what my mind and heart speaks out, and type it out. But I know what I write has most of the time, no meaning at all :P

Your way of writing is far better when you wrote Expectations and Acceptance post, so there is a difference yaar!!

  8. Arre dear, blogging is all about expressing your views, what you feel. And who said what you write does not make sense most of the times. The Bhagat singh post was really good and sensible and also the college hostel one.
You take the same topic ‘Expectations and Acceptance’ and write a post and I can bet you that you’ll write it thousand times better than. :)
