Unspoken truth about my college and hostel

September 04 14 Comments Category: Complaints

Please spend a couple minutes reading the entire post, not much(around 850 words) only if you are interested about my life. If not, you can close it.

I don’t care if my college administration reads this post and takes any action on it, but i just want them to read it and understand what a common hostel student in their college is going through and what problems are not being looked at.

Starting with the confession about my life here in college, it sucks! Totally living the life as hell although i could manage my 3 years of course due to all the support from friends and family, and zero support from the college management. What am I paying the fee for? Just for a room to stay with no facilities, and the food which is nearly the quality of the food given to pets at home(the leftovers?)!

The only good thing one can say about in our college is, the faculty. Every professor(am not saying this just to be safe) has a talent within themselves and are the best ones we have got, when compared to many other dental institutions! But this post is not to praise the faculty, but is to show the flaws of the college management, in the college and hostel.

We are called the dental students, the DENTISTS in the making! Are we being treated accordingly? Not at all. We are being shown how to lead a life with all the pain trying to have a successful career! We are not in a government college, we are paying for everything but still getting nothing. Its not just me complaining, but 200 voices along with me, but no one has the guts to put forward their thoughts and problems! I’m not proving myself here but anyways, here’s what all we are facing -

The royal food – This constantly sucks! Can’t they afford to have some good cooks by paying some extra money when they are happily torture us for the fee which we always pay on time? Just one cook to manage everything the whole day for 200+ people! And he is constantly tortured for good food which he can’t make. Why don’t the management understand that we need a change here? Or we need a couple more good cooks here?

We are living in a zoo, not in a hostel – There are more animals than humans here.. Seriously! Monkeys, dogs, cats, turtles(in stagnant water behind the hostel campus), snakes(that can enter the hostel rooms sometimes), and what not? The insects+mosquito attacks during nights if we commit a mistake of switching the lights on and keeping the doors open for sometime and we are going to see hell for the whole night! Oh, and how can i forget about the Rats? they stay with us all the time! And when we complaint about all this, we get a very good suggestion “Why don’t you try to make them run away?” Is this what we are living and paying in the hostel for?

Power cuts, in a hospital campus? Imagine this.. you are treating a patient and the power goes down! Yea it comes back in sometime due to the generator but how bad it is when you are the in the mid-way of something! Not just that.. but the same case is when food is being cooked and something being ground in the mixer, it stops! So does the whole cooking process.

A single TV that doesn’t broadcast anything – We have a TV, the only entertainment source, but that doesn’t entertain us! Why? College fails to pay the bills for the Tata Sky connection of the previous month so the service goes dead! Good. That’s nothing new for us.. At least we can tell others that we have a TV, although there’s nothing beneficial having it kept aside in the recreation room.

Sports? What does that mean? There was something called as Sports week last year, that’s it. Since then we don’t have any sports, no one to talk about it, no one to care about it. The nets for Volleyball are removed. The cricket pitch has a few inches of grass, and the only only sport we can play to remember the name is indoor game Table Tennis. A table and 2 bats. That’s it. There’s no competition during the game but after the game, that who would play next.. Seriously! Can’t we have some encouragement or support in this field at least?

These were just a part of my complaints! I don’t want to speak more and keep my readers thinking why is he sharing all this sad stories here! Its just to let a few people know that we are living life as hell here.. at least I never lived such a life anytime earlier..

I feel lucky if I’m sometimes perfectly fine, because that happens very rarely. Most of the times some or the other illness hits me up.. and its common for everyone in my hostel.

I keep joining other’s hands trying to change the world, but when will I be able to change the situation in my college and hostel? :|

  3. Dude that’s the common story of 95% of hostel students, me also gone through the same situation but i leaved my hostel in first month and got myself a king size room with a good friend of mine. And believe me that was the best decision of my life. College life is something you can never achieve in your life again. So my suggestion for you find a PG or a room for yourself and enjoy the final year of your college life.

  4. woww… guess what my hostel is equally bad…
ANIMAL KINGDOM in the hostel…. check.
TOTALLY SUCKY FOOD….check(with a really cheap mentality by our mess owners gives us food js for the sake of MONEY)
    POWER CUT…. double check
TV…. at least u have one, we don’t have any (well but whats the use of having one without a connection , pity u for that)
Sports (well gals hardly play but generally speaking, my collage DOESN’T HAVE A BLOODY GROUND)

guess its almost the same in every hostel… cos i can connect yours completely to mine…
Lucky you at least live in a better place than mine.

The only way out of all this is to talk to your authority(if they listen).

3 years are over dude… manage the last year and get out of there thats all we can do…

  5. This needs to be brought to the notice of the college management.
Students staying in hostels are the responsibility of the college management.
If they turn a deaf ear to the students, parents must be involved in this matter.

Forget the entertainment part, at least some serious measures need to be taken as far as food and health issues are concerned.
Some colleges also have in house doctors for the hostel students …
If they cannot do this, at least they should take precautions to see that their students do NOT fall sick because of lack of hygienic conditions. Stagnant water is a BAD IDEA!

  6. Aham bhaiya.. i know u are always there for anything of this kind to help us! I love you for that :) But i have something else in my mind where I am taking these kinda steps like blog posts etc. to make my friends first realize that we can do anything that we need to do for a change! A permanent change!
And i will surely remember you for any help when i need it :)

    adee -
not a hell hole, but just a hell!

Yep i agree with you, most of the hostels are the same. But seriously, if i had started writing every small thing, a book could be easily written by now! This is just a small part that i could write quickly. I have visited a few of my friends’ colleges and hostels and they were many times better than mine. So the feelings expressed.

Yep, 3 overs are over so that doesn’t mean i should end my college life in the same way na? I need a change and need support from my college friends. This is an attempt for that :)

  8. Thing is, everywhere the hostel facility sucks.. it’s all about the money they want. So you have to expect poor quality materials..

Like Vinay Prashar said, find a room mate and shift to a nearby room. Even in my college they had to change from hostel to room as it gives you freedom, good food (hire a cook) and a good college life! I hope the college management hears you but I believe the chances of taking action from there side are very low :(

  13. Hey dude, don’t become so frustrated with your hostel conditions. Just think of the people who live in slum and pass the whole life like hell. After leaving this place you know, you yourself miss all the things about this place, it doesn’t matter whether it was good or bad. Life is all about enjoying everything not carping against them everytime.

  14. I am saying all the things because the same situation was in my hostel too but that was the golden period of my life, when I learn most of the things.
