First day in clinical year.. Not too cool

Ok so finally the college has started and we had the first day today for our 3rd year of BDS where we are newly introduced in the clinics, small batches made and sent into various branches.

Few of my lucky friends got the less-work and less brain washing topics like Oral medicine and periodontics but i was not too lucky, and our batch was allotted into the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery department for this month. And its the most terrifying subject if you ask me, as no tissue in the mouth is spared here. Anything can be torn and played with to just extract the tooth from the jaw.

And now coming to the main secret, I can’t tolerate watching blood for a long time so can’t stand watching it for long. And this being the first class, i didn’t expect watching patients and surgeries being done in their mouths with our professors cutting out the tissues and extracting the teeth. It was just awful, and i told that to my professor.

He just asked me, “Imagine if you would become an Oral and maxillofacial surgeon in future, would you feel the same and react in this way?” and “You have to play with blood in future surgeries, hold tight when watching these things.. you can control yourself.”
That’s what i did the whole day and could control myself and till the end of the 3-hour clinical class.

Now have to bear those same things the whole month till our batch shifts to the new department. Let’s hope the 16 classes for this month go well for me. Not like what happened today.
